Your Teeth and Summertime
From picnics and barbeques to beach play and holidays, summertime is enough to put a smile on anyone’s face! But be aware: everything from the type of water you swim in, to the summertime favorites you eat can ruin those pearly whites. Did you know that chlorine can damage your teeth? It can cause enamel erosion due to it being highly acidic. Over time, chlorinated pool water can soften your teeth. Other big culprits include summer drinks, salad dressings and white wine. One way to combat the effects of these food triggers is foods that are high in calcium…such as cheese. Cheese saturates your saliva with calcium ions which helps reduce the effects of these acidic treats. Now summertime is not all bad news for your smile…one summertime treat that is not only great for a hot day, but is good for your teeth: watermelon. Being loaded with water, it helps prevent dehydration and helps increase saliva flow. This can help push unwanted food particles and plaque away. Added bonus: watermelon is packed with some of the most important antioxidants in nature; it is an excellent source of Vitamin C and a very good source of Vitamin A, which are great for your teeth.
What’s Happening in the Office?

Dr. Lamontagne has settled in nicely and we are so thankful to have her here!
We cannot believe we are more than halfway through 2012 and want to thank all of our wonderful patients!
