Aligners work by shifting your teeth slightly over time. Your teeth can be moved horizontally, vertically and even rotated through the use of aligners. Typically you will change your aligners about every two weeks, which will slowly shift your teeth into proper place.
A properly aligned set of teeth not only give you a smile you’ll be proud to show off. But they can also help correct issues of jaw alignment such as overbites or underbites, which left untreated can lead to jaw pain and difficulty chewing or functioning. Crowded or crooked teeth can be more difficult to clean or floss properly, leading to an increase in cavities or gum disease!
Invisalign are clear aligners so they will have a minimal impact on your day to day life, but will make a big impact on your teeth and smile overall. Aligners differ from braces in that they do not have any brackets wires, they simply fit over your teeth and gently move your teeth back into place. This means that, unlike with traditional braces, you are able to eat whatever foods you like, play sports without the fear of breaking or snapping your braces’ wires, and generally live your life hassle free!
For best results, you will want to wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day, however you can still take them out to eat and drink foods such as coffee, popcorn or other foods that you would generally be unable to enjoy with traditional braces. Another bonus of Invisalign is that they are virtually invisible, and the majority of people will not even notice that you’re wearing a pair!
